February 2019

As historians the children have been researching Florence Nightingale using non-fiction texts. We also looked at the impact Florence Nightingale has had on modern day medicine and healthcare.

Look at Year 2 enjoying hockey on a lovely fresh morning!

As part of our warm up in P.E and to raise money for the NSPCC we had to count how many star jumps we had to do in one minute!

Look at Year 2 go!

We are artists! January 2019

Look at our fabulous sketches of different fruits and vegetables. We even applied the technique of shading to our drawings.

Year 2 were inspired by the patterns designed by Orla Kiely and created their own using Purple Mash (ICT) and printing with paint.

What masterpieces!

A ‘Souper’ Week Of Learning!    January 2019

What a great shopping expedition to Brierley Hill Asda to buy ingredients for our vegetable soup. Year 2 loved choosing and weighing the produce. What a wonderful experience and such respectful and sociable members of our community- well done mini-shoppers!

As mini master chiefs Year 2 have created a healthy vegetable soup with the ingredients they voted for and purchased from Asda! All of this week we have focused on different aspects involved in making the soup from creating tally and bar charts in mathematics, writing instructions in English and looking at healthy eating in science. Doesn’t our soup look amazing?

Calendar Creation - December 2018

As artists we investigated the process of dying fabric through tie-dye. We explored different methods of tie-dye which created various effects. Year 2 haves used this fabric as a background for their Christmas calendars. Look how beautiful they are!

Victorian Christmas Enterprise - December 2018

As designers we looked at sweets that were invented/popular in the Victorian times and created sweet jars to sell. We worked out the total cost of making our product and the profit we would make per item in mathematics. To add decoration, in Art we were inspired by the work produced by William Morris and created Christmas natural designs. Year 2 then printed there favourite design on calico to decorate the top of the jar. As you can see what a wonderfully made final product!

Blakesely Hall Visit December 2018

As historians year 2 visited Blakesley Hall and journeyed back in time to 1666! We immersed ourselves in the lives of the people of that time by looking at different artefacts and exploring the different herbs and remedies in the Tudor garden. Year 2 even re-enacted the events of that fateful night when the fire started using Samuel Pepys’ Diary. What a fantastic start to our History topic!

Children in Need 2018

As a compassionate citizens we investigated the history behind Children in Need and what it means to give. We linked this to the ‘Story of the Little Match Girl’ and our work related to Rights Respecting School.

Super Scientists! Autumn 2018

As Scientists we explored the characteristics of different animal species, animal habitats and adaptations. We focused on developing mastery questioning and scientific vocabulary e.g. Why wouldn’t a polar bear live here? Which animals would thrive here? How has this animal adapted to live in this environment? What do you think would happen to this animal if its habitat changed? (Linked to global issues)
