Mount Pleasant Primary School

Music

Curriculum Subject Lead - Mrs C Wilkinson

At  Mount Pleasant, we take pride in making music an enjoyable learning adventure. All our children are encouraged to participate in a variety of musical experiences aimed at advancing their musical skills as well as building self-confidence, resilience and a sense of achievement, which ultimately will develop their love of music. Through a shared joy of music, new relationships are formed and talents are developed – skills which will continue throughout school life and beyond.

It is our aim that all children are given as much scope as possible to express themselves through music. Singing, instrumental lessons, after school opportunities and classroom lessons all contribute towards the rich music curriculum that we offer at Mount Pleasant.

National Curriculum

The national curriculum for music aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
  • learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
  • understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
